Our football museum

In 2014, our district – and with it, the whole of Hungarian football – was enriched by a permanent and ever-evolving football museum. This was the year the Kispest Football House opened its doors, bringing to life the history of Budapest Honvéd FC and its predecessors.

The exhibition places strong emphasis on the club’s early days, starting from its founding in 1909 as Kispesti AC. It highlights the legendary, undefeated team of the 1950s led by Ferenc Puskás – a proud chapter of the Golden Team era – the medal-winning squads of the 1980s, and of course, the club’s current achievements.

A multitude of items await visitors: medals, trophies, photographs, jerseys, documents, and other relics that all bear witness to the glorious moments of the Kispest football team.

How did the football club of a small town near Budapest become a world-renowned institution in District 19? Kispest or Honvéd? What world records are held by Ferenc Puskás, Lajos Tichy, or Lajos Détári? How was the European Cup (now Champions League) created? Which club won the world’s first penalty shootout? And why do all the clocks in the museum show 19:09?

These and many other questions are answered during your visit. Meanwhile, children can play on the custom-painted Honvéd foosball table, where only Honvéd can win – and the reason why becomes clear on-site.

Take a selfie with the lifelike, artistic graffiti (e.g. Puskás, Détári), or with Leo, the mascot lion of the Kispest football club.

The Kispest Football House is not only interesting for Kispest-Honvéd fans – football lovers of all kinds, or even those less familiar with the sport, can enjoy their time at our museum.

The Kispest Football House opened in 2014 through the cooperation of the District Municipality and the Association for Supporting Kispest Football, after several years of preparatory work. The elegant building on Fő Street was renovated and furnished by our association members and Kispest-Honvéd fans through volunteer work. Some contributed their expertise, others the necessary materials and furnishings, and many offered their hard-working hands for this noble cause. Such community effort is rare not only in Hungary but internationally as well.

Relics continue to arrive from fans and former players alike. Most of the memorabilia in our exhibition were donated. We are always grateful if you can support our collection with any memorabilia from KAC, Kispest FC, Budapest Honvéd, or Kispest Honvéd.
